Snap has launched a standalone video editing app ‘Story Studio’ for creators. The app gives creators an easy way of creating impressive vertical videos by adding things like text, trending audio, and AR lenses. This app is now available as an ‘early version’ to iOS users in the US, UK, and Canada.

The app was initially announced back in May 2021. As the app is only available for iPhone, it requires an A12 processor or newer, and iOS 14.7 or newer. Minimum supported iPhones are the iPhone XR and iPhone XS. The company didn’t confirm when it plans to bring the app for Android.

Snap claims that Story Studio is an advanced video editing tool that creates content for Spotlight. Videos made in Story Studio can be exported directly to Spotlight or added to the Snapchat stories. Users can also download videos and share them on other social media platforms. Snap Story doesn’t add any watermark in the videos.

Snap recently confirmed that it has already paid out more than $250 million to 12,000 creators who make videos for Spotlight. The company promises to keep rewarding popular creators who are making impressive Spotlight content.

With Spotlight, Snap wants to compete against TikTok and Instagram Reels. Snap was really popular among Teens but TikTok and Instagram Reels have affected Snap’s engagement. Snap claims that creators are now posting three times as often as they were before the feature was announced. That means Spotlight helped the company to boost engagement on the platform.
