Facebook-owned photo sharing app Instagram has revealed a flaw in its API that has revealed phone numbers and email addresses of few celebrities to hackers.

Instagram has also sent an email to affected celebrities and notified them amount this incident. The company clarified that passwords had not been stolen but warned users to watch any suspicious activity on their accounts.

“We recently discovered that one or more individuals obtained unlawful access to a number of high-profile Instagram users’ contact information – specifically email address and phone number – by exploiting a bug in an Instagram API,” Instagram wrote in the warning email.

Instagram has also confirmed that the bug in API has already been fixed. This bug allowed hackers to get access to contact information including phone number and email address.

Yesterday, hackers hacked into Selena Gomez’s Instagram account and posted a nude photo of Justin. She is the most followed Instagram person with 125 million followers. We assume that this hack could be the result of this API bug, but Instagram has not commented on this.
