Google's reCaptcha is Easier for Human Now

Google has released a new version of its captcha library called reCaptcha. Google claims that this newer version is no longer annoying and easier to solve if you are human.

Google has made these changes after a long search for making captcha system better. It uses advance artificial intelligence to recognize whether a user is human or bot before serving captcha challenge.

Captcha is a challenge which is placed on a website to check whether the visitor if a BOT or a human. It is basically used in forms to prevent bots from submitting forms. Earlier, it display random combination of characters and numbers in distorted manner. Sometimes, it is really hard to recognize characters. But there is a refresh button to get another captcha challenge.

reCAPTCHA was developed at Carnegie Mellon University. Google acquired it in 2009.

“As part of this, we’ve recently released an update that creates different classes of CAPTCHAs for different kinds of users. This multi-faceted approach allows us to determine whether a potential user is actually a human or not, and serve our legitimate users CAPTCHAs that most of them will find easy to solve. Bots, on the other hand, will see CAPTCHAs that are considerably more difficult and designed to stop them from getting through,” Google explained in a blog post.

“Humans find numeric CAPTCHAs significantly easier to solve than those containing arbitrary text and achieve nearly perfect pass rates on them. So with our new system, you’ll encounter CAPTCHAs that are a breeze to solve. Bots, however, won’t even see them,” It added.

Now, you will see new Captcha challenges with numbers only. But for BOTs, Google will still display hard to crack random captcha with combination of characters nad numbers.

New captcha is about to be live in coming weeks. You will see it on various websites using reCaptcha soon. Google is also eager to know the response of these new changes.
