Not many people know about NFC wireless charging, but the feature can soon make its way to Android devices. According to a new report by Android Authority, Android Android 15 Beta 1p has codes to handle NFC-related events.
Back in 2020, NFC Forum introduced the NFC Wireless Charging standard that can charge devices wirelessly over NFC. NFC wireless charging uses a 13.56 MHz base frequency and uses an NFC communication link for power transfer. It offers up to 1W charging at a distance of 2cm. So, it is not really helpful but can open a new world of possibilities.
Compared to Qi wireless charging, NFC uses smaller antennas that can be placed in tight spaces. It only supports up to 1W charging which means devices will take longer time to charge.
NFC wireless charging can be used to charge small devices such as TWS, item trackers, and styluses.
Android devices lack NFC wireless charging because it wasn’t supported yet. Now that Android 15 is getting the feature, we can expect brands like Samsung to get NFC wireless charging support in its Ecosystem of devices.
