Wikipedia Receives $3.6 Million, Its Largest Donation Yet

Wikipedia, world’s largest encyclopedia,is one of the 5th most visited website of the world. But the website has no direct revenue. You will not see any ads or sponserd links on the website. It’s run by Wikimedia Foundation which is a non profit organization. The website relies on the donation money only.
Wikimedia announced to revieve the largest donation $3.6 million from the Stanton Foundation. This money will be used in maintaining wikipedia.


Wikimedia announced,”Today we were very pleased to announce another amazing grant from the US based Stanton Foundation, and our largest grant yet.  The grant totals $3.6 million USD, and will fund major investments in the technology infrastructure that supports Wikipedia and its sister projects – specifically to serve our growing readership.”


This is the largest donation wikimedia ever gets. SOme years ago Google had donated $2 million to wikimedia. This is not the first time Stanton Foundation dobated to wikimedia. It had already donated $1.2 million.
