India is a very important market for Google. This is the reason it has been launching India-specific things and features for the past few months. Today, Google announced the Indian Language Internet Alliance (ILIA). In this effort, it launched a new portal hindiweb.com, for Hindi-related content. It also demoed a voice search in Hindi. With ILIA, Google wants to turn Hindi language speakers into active Internet users. It aimed to connect 300 million Hindi speakers users to the Internet by 2017.

Hindiweb.com is a new portal that is a collection of websites that offer content in Hindi. For this, Google has partnered with leading Indian technology, news, and content companies to offer better content in the Hindi language. Google has added key players like ABP News, Amar Ujala Publications, IDB Digital, Firstouch, HinKhoj, NDTV, Network 18, Oneindia.com, and Times Internet Limited under this initiative. In this portal, users will be able to find Hindi-related content like blogs, apps, videos, and news.

Google Voice search and Knowledge Graph will also be available in Hindi. Voice search is really an important part of this. Searching content in Hindi is not easier just by typing on the keyboard. You need to learn it first. And people who don’t speak English are those who will find learning typing in Hindi hard. So, try searching via voice search. Google has also launched a new Hindi keyboard.

Google has been investing lots of money and effort to get the most out of the Indian market. It launched India-specific affordable smartphone initiative Android One with standardized hardware and a stock Android experience. It also launched Google Maps in Hindi and later added Hindi voice navigation to maps. Google Voice search has also been improved to understand the Indian accent and now to understand the Hindi language.
