Flipkart to go app only from September

Flipkart app

Flipkart appFew months back, Flipkart confirmed to go app-only by the end of the year. Now Times of India reported that this decision can be taken as early as September this year. Flipkart’s chief product officer Punit Soni informed employees about this new change in product at a recent town hall meeting.

By going app-only, Flipkart can make it difficult for users to compare prices. It can also better track users and show notification to get more clicks and sale. We have already discussed why do companies focus on mobile app. Mobile app is better for companies in terms of user engagement and conversion. They can send notifications any time and users are most likely to open app and see it. If the deal is good, it will covert into sale.

Flipkart already confirmed that 75% traffic is from mobile devices, so moving to app-only is not a bad idea. Myntra already did the same and became app only in May. Although reports claims that the decision affected the sale, but company is still operating in app-only model.

Most of the users are not comfortable in installing too many apps. Low internal storage is also a main reason. Most of the companies offer 4Gb or 8GB internal storage but they already sell smartphone with number of pre-installed apps. So, actual usable storage is no more than 2 GB for users. Now, installing too many apps does not make sense.
