Snapdeal Relaunches Shopo as App-Only Zero Commission Marketplace

Snapdeal Acquired Shopo back in 2013. Shopo is the marketplace for artisanal goods and it is expecting to host around 1 million shops within next year. Currently, it hosts around 30000 shops online.

Shopo app is available for iOS and Android both platform. As it is not charging any Payment fee, it will surely hurt Paytm with this model. Buyers and sellers can directly interact and buyers can also bargain with sellers on chat. So, you will get offline shopping experience.

Good thing is that business can now list their items on Shopo with any document and long verification process. They will also be able to reach their potential customers without paying commission. Individuals can also sell items on the platform. Sellers can buyers can decide mode of transaction as well as delivery.

“To be a seller on Snapdeal there are basic requirements, where organised merchants can sell. We’ve had to turn away 450,000 potential sellers over the last three years. We realised that we cannot miss out on that opportunity.” said Snapdeal CEO Kunal Bahl, at the press conference announcing the launch.

“We believe that Shopo is the easiest way to set up a shop online. It takes less than 30 seconds to set up a shop online. We will have a very interesting selection of products on the platform, it’s personalised on a location standpoint.” he added.

Bahl confirmed that use cases for Snapdeal and Shopo are very different. So, one should not expect Snapdeal to come on app-only model. Snapdeal already denied any such kind of rumours. While Flipkart confirmed that it will go app-only from September.
