Popular dating website Adult FriendFinder has suffered a massive data breach. Personal data of around 3.9 million users is on sale on the dark web.

This incident was first reported by Channel 4 who reported this to Adult FriendFinder, California based company. Adult FriendFinder has around 64 million users. Leaked data include Sexual preferences, Email addresses, Sexual orientation, Dates of birth, Addresses, Usernames and Whether users are “seeking extramarital affairs”. This info can tell a lot about a user. With an email address, the user is personally identifiable.

Hackers can use this data to blackmail these users and ask them to pay for not leaking this in public. This is why this is something very serious.

It was also reported that the hacker attempted to blackmail the users to extort $100,000 before publishing the data online. This data was posted by a hacker nickname ROR[RG].

The company has called the law enforcement and started the investigation of the issue. It is yet to confirm how the data was leaked from the servers. We can guess that hackers found some kind of SQL injection vulnerability on the website to access the personal data of the user.
