The study on social sharing buttons and plugins was carried out by BrightEdge, an enterprise SEO platform used by many major online companies. The BrightEdge Social Share Report estimates and tracks month-over-month adoption trends of popular social plugins and tools across the top 10000 websites globally. All the data presented is based on analysis of the main website.
From this report, only 49% of websites have any of social sharing buttons on website. Integration of basic links and sharing to Facebook and Twitter have the highest adoption rates by a wide margin across all social tools and plugins. Facebook is at top with 47% and twitter is at 2nd with 42%.
The second category of social linking analyzed in the report was social plugins. This includes Facebook Like buttons, Facebook Like boxes, Facebook Connect, Facebook Recommendations, Twitter Follow buttons, Twitter Share buttons, Google +1 buttons and much more.
While the Facebook Like button is the most used social sharing plugin with 10.8% of all websites, Google +1 has 4.5% and twitter share is at 2.1%.
