‘World’s First Modular Smartphone’ Fairphone 2 Launched

Google has been working on Project Ara to bring a module smartphone for past few years. But, ‘Word’s First Modular Smartphone’ has already been launched. This module phone is dubbed as ‘Fairphone 2’. It is priced at EUR 529.38 and will start shipping starting December this year. This phone has been designed in a way that any one can easily disassemble and replace parts very much similar to desktop PC. In this way, your phone will become long lasting. You only need to replace the part which you want. So, upgrading the specifications of your phone will become easier and you will not have to buy new phone.

Not just hardware, you can also select the operating system, you want to run on your phone.

There are alternatives emerging to the dominant operating systems, with Canonical’s Ubuntu, Jolla’s Sailfish OS, and Mozilla’s Firefox OS,” the company posted on a blog post.

If I talk about hardware specifications, this phone features a 5 inch full HD LCD display with Gorilla Glass protection and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop. It is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon​ 801 processor with 2GB RAM. It has 32 GB internal storage which is also expandable via microSD card slot. It ha 8 megapixels rear camera and 2 megapixels front camera. It comes with 4G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS connectivity. It is packed with 2420 mAh battery.

Impressive thing is the expansion port of the back cover. Users can install additional apparatuses such as NFC chips, wireless charging coils and even solar cells in this expansion port.
