YouTube is getting more tools for Shorts to take on TikTok

YouTube has added several tools for Shorts to compete against TikTok. These new features include remixing videos side by side, suggestions for remixing videos, replying to comments with a ‘Shorts’, saving videos to Playlists, adding effects, and stickers, and going live. YouTube has also started testing a new mobile-first vertical live experience to help creators get visibility in the main shorts feed.

The Collab feature lets creators record a Short in a side-by-side format with other YouTube videos or Shorts videos. It offers a side-by-side layout option for split-screen format and will be available from the same Remix option.

The company is adding a Q&A sticker. So, creators can now ask questions and get responses in the comments. Creators can now reply to comments with a Short video.

Creators who go live can now easily be discovered in the Shorts feed. Viewers will see previews of the live videos mixed with other Shorts videos as they scroll. If they tap to watch the live video, they can watch it. YouTube has already lowered the eligibility requirements to join the YouTube Partner Program. So, creators can use it for the monetization of live videos.

Another option the company added is the ability to save Shorts to playlists on YouTube.

Shorts grew really fast and now more than 2 billion logged-in YouTube users watch them. The company has already started sharing ad revenue with Shorts creators to encourage them to make more content.
