Kaspersky reported 13 new apps infected with the Joker malware

Android malware

Popular cybersecurity and anti-virus provider Kaspersky has reported 13 new apps infected with notorious Joker malware. In a series of Tweets, Kaspersky’s Android malware analyst Tatyana Shishkova noted these apps.

These apps made their way to Google’s Play Store. After being reported, Google has removed these apps. But it is surprising to see how Google has no proper solution to prevent Joker away from the Play Store.

Here is the list of apps you should remove if Installed on your phone.

  • Classic Emoji Keyboard
  • Battery Charging Animations Battery Wallpaper
  • Battery Charging Animations Bubble Effects
  • EmojiOne Keyboard
  • Easy PDF Scanner
  • Flashlight Flash Alert On Call
  • Halloween Coloring
  • Now QRcode Scan
  • Dazzling Keyboard
  • Smart TV remote
  • Volume Booster Louder Sound Equalizer
  • Volume Booster Hearing Aid
  • Super Hero-Effect

Joker Malware was first discovered back in 2017. This malware can steal users’ data, including SMS, contact list, device info, OTPs and more. Google has made lots of efforts but the malware keeps coming back in Android apps every few months.

I always recommend people avoid downloading apps using APK or from unknown sources. Now when infected apps also land to Play Store, I recommend users to stop downloading any random app. First, do proper research and read reviews. Install apps only from trusted developers. You should also install a google Antivirus App capable of catching malicious apps.
