Facebook wants you to read the article before sharing

Facebook read article prompt

Social media is useful and is a fast way of spreading information across the world. But this is also used to spread misinformation. Different publications write interesting and catchy headlines. People just read the headline and share it without reading the actual content. So, Facebook is rolling out a new prompt that suggests reading an article before you share them on your feed.

Facebook claims that the feature is still in testing and may change or removed in the future. If you don’t click the link and try to share the article you found on Facebook, you will be shown a prompt to read the article first. You can still share the article without reading it.

Most of the time, the headline doesn’t clear the whole picture. So, it is important to read the whole article for getting the context.

Last summer, Twitter also introduced the same prompt in an attempt to combat misinformation. Twitter confirmed that it found success in getting more people to read before they tweet. Now Facebook is copying this important Twitter feature.
