Windows 8 Consumer Preview was awarded with a lot of attention, and now Microsoft, encouraged by this, is working harder on its Windows 8 – in summer the platform is expected to be finally released, and in October 2012 the first tablets running this OS will appear on our shelves. By the way, a lot of software is already being released for this platform, Norton Internet Security for Windows 8 being one of them.

So what will the first Windows 8-based tablets look like? First of all, we expect to see three Windows 8 ARM-based tablets, and Microsoft says they’ll strictly control those devices to make sure they’ll come with really good quality. Of course, Intel-based tablets will also be released, and more likely there’ll be a bigger number of them compared to the ARM devices – Windows has always run well on Intel processors.

Many experts agree that the success of Windows 8 will highly depend on the timing of the release of the tablets running it and the hardware features they’ll come with. Microsoft should offer good competition to the devices made by Apple and other major manufacturers, otherwise the iPad 3 (which didn’t receive very good feedbacks, by the way) will again dominate on the market, followed by Samsung’s Galaxy tablets.

In the beginning of April, Microsoft is planning to hold an official event and introduce the Windows 8 and reveal some details about it, including the release date. So we’ll learn more about both the platform and the tablets that’ll come with it in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, what do you think, which tablets will be cooler – the ARM- or the Intel-based ones?
