Today at a press event, Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg has announced a new product called Graph Search.
This new product has been developed with the help of two ex-Googler, Lars Rasmussen and Tom Stocky. Zuckerberg calls it “Dream Team.”
Graph search is designed to give users the actual answer of their answers rather than collection of links which we get in web search. When ever we will search anything, it will try to query Facebook database and will try to answer your question based on people, connections and interests. Sometimes, search results for a query will be different for different people. Because search results will be based on a users interest and friendship.
“Every piece of content on Facebook has its own audience, and most content isn’t public,” a Facebook statement said.
“We’ve built Graph Search from the start with privacy in mind, and it respects the privacy and audience of each piece of content on Facebook. It makes finding new things much easier, but you can only see what you could already view elsewhere on Facebook.”
Suppose you want to search “Movie My Friends like,” search results will bring the movie results liked by most of your friends. Facebook also claimed that the feature is built by taking care of users’ privacy. Users can select which of their photos can people see in search results.
This product is in early beta and people can only search People, photos, places and interests.
“We’re going to start with a limited rollout of Graph Search now but starting very slowly. We need to get data from people using it so we can make the data better. But we’re looking forward to getting more people onto it over the coming weeks and months,” Zuckerberg said.
One more thing i want to note here. If Facebook is unable to answer your query, it will use Bing and show Bing search results for your query.
