Google introduces AI Model Gemini: A Revolutionary Leap in AI Capabilities

Gemini

Google has launched its “largest and most capable” AI model called Gemini. Gemini represents a transformative leap in artificial intelligence capabilities. The company also claims its new AI model is better than ChatGPT and other rivals.

A key differentiator of Gemini is its native multimodality. So it can understand and reason about text, images, audio, and more simultaneously. Unlike traditional multimodal models that combine separate components, Gemini is pre-trained from the start on different modalities, resulting in superior capabilities for conceptual and complex reasoning tasks.

Gemini comes in three versions: Ultra, Pro, and Nano. The company confirmed that Gemini will be available to users from Wednesday. It will also be integrated into Bard and the latest Pixel 8 Pro smartphones.

Gemini is a multimodal AI model designed to seamlessly understand and combine different types of information, including text, code, audio, image, and video. The model’s flexibility allows it to efficiently operate across various platforms, from data centers to mobile devices, making it one of the most versatile and scalable AI models to date.

The company claims that Gemini Ultra is the first AI model that can outperform human experts. It has high problem-solving abilities across 57 subjects including math, history, medicine, and ethics. The Large Language Model can also understand and generate code in different programming languages like Python, Java, and C++.

Gemini Pro is the best model for scaling across a wide range of tasks. It is coming today in Bard with more advanced reasoning and understanding in the responses. Gemini Pro will power text-based prompts in Bard and later expand to support multimodal interactions, involving texts, images, or other modalities in the upcoming months.

Gemini Pro was tested extensively before it was released to the public. It did better than GPT-3.5 in six out of eight standard tests, especially in tasks like handling lots of language tasks at once and solving grade school math problems. Even though GPT-3.5 is more than a year old, Google highlights that the quality of Bard has significantly improved by incorporating Gemini.

Gemini Nano can manage on-device tasks. It will be available in Pixel 8 Pro. The language model can power several features including Summarise in the Recorder app and Smart Reply via Gboard.

The integration of Gemini into Bard will occur in two phases. Initially, Bard will receive an upgrade with a specially tuned version of Gemini Pro. Following this, Google plans to introduce Bard Advanced in the next year, granting users access to the top-tier AI model, starting with Gemini Ultra. Gemini 1.0 will soon be rolling out across various Google products, including Bard and Pixel. Developers can access Gemini Pro via the Gemini API in Google AI Studio or Google Cloud Vertex AI starting December 13. Gemini Nano will be available for Android developers and Pixel 8 Pro devices with Android 14.

Google unveiled Bard back in February 2023 and made it available across the globe in May. Google has already integrated Gmail, YouTube, and other tools into its Bard to provide users with generative AI featrues. The initial rollout didn’t go smoothly, but this update will surely put Bard in direct competition with ChatGPT.
