Twitter Blue subscribers can now upload longer videos on the platform. They can upload up to two hours long videos of up to 8GB in size. Video quality has still been capped at 1080p.
When I checked the official Twitter Blue page, I found that longer video upload is only available on Twitter.com and Twitter for iOS. Android users can still only upload up to 10 minutes long videos. People who are not Twitter Blue subscribers can only upload videos up to 140 seconds long.
The new update has doubled the video length and quadrupled the standard file size limit. Previously, it was a maximum of one hour video of up to 2GB file size.
Twitter also confirmed that there is no limit on the number of videos you can upload. Any Twitter user can watch longer videos. A Twitter Blue subscription is required only to upload videos.
With this change, Twitter now wants to attract creators who actively post videos on YouTube. But Twitter can only do this if it brings a monetization option. We can also expect a video monetization option from Twitter in the coming months.
Twitter will also face a challenge to tackle piracy. Anyone can upload movie clips, episodes of TV series, or any other kind of copyrighted video. The company will also have to work on this.
