Google opens early access to Bard

Bard

Back in February, Google unveiled its AI chatbot Bard with an aim to compete against ChatGPT. Now Google has opened early access to Bard in limited regions. People of the U.K. and the U.S. can visit bard.google.com to use Bard.

Bard is also a chatbot based on a LaMDA large language model. Users can interact with Bard and ask several questions with follow-up queries.

“You can use Bard to boost your productivity, accelerate your ideas and fuel your curiosity. You might ask Bard to give you tips to reach your goal of reading more books this year, explain quantum physics in simple terms, or spark your creativity by outlining a blog post,” Google VP of Product Sissie Hsiao and Google VP of Research Eli Collins wrote in a blog post.

Users can ask anything and get answers. Bard works the same way as other generative AI chatbots. It also offers an option to rate the answer with a thumbs up or thumbs down. I will help Google to improve Bard based on feedback.

In a conference in Paris, Google also explained that Bard would work well for “NORA” queries. NORA queries are the questions to which there is no one right answer. Although, it could be inaccurate in some sources because it provides answers based on the information it has been trained.

Google also shows a disclaimer that reads “Bard may display inaccurate or offensive information that doesn’t represent Google’s views.”

For now, Bard is a separate product. In the coming months, it could be integrated with Google search to provide users with quick answers to their general queries. It will be interesting to see how users react to Bard when it is widely available.
