Twitter has today announced that it will shut down TweetDeck for Mac on July 1. The company has started showing a notification banner on the TweetDeck app for Mac suggesting users start using the web app.

The company has also tweeted the same from the official TweetDeck Twitter handle.

Twitter acquired TweetDeck back in 2011 for $40 million but never worked enough on it. There were some loyal TweetDeck users who wanted the company to improve the app and add more features. They were even ready to pay for the premium features. But the company didn’t listen to requests.

If you are not sure what TweetDeck is, it is a Twitter client that lets individuals and businesses manage their Twitter accounts in a better way. The tool offers multiple account management from a single dashboard. You can follow a trending topic and have a dedicated column for that trending keyword or phrase to know what’s happening in real-time. You can add as many columns as you want for different profiles. The dedicated apps offer several keyboard shortcuts and features scheduled posting, search filters, and post to several accounts.

Twitter shut down TweetDeck’s mobile client in 2013, removed Android and iOS apps in May 2013, and discontinued Windows support in 2016. Now the company is axing the TweetDeck app for Mac. It is also worth noting that Twitter shut down Twitter’s Mac app back in 2018.

Now the company is developing TweetDeck’s web version and testing the Preview. The test is limited to people living in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. So, TweetDeck will live on as a web app.
