Instagram wants to be more like TikTok. The company is now testing a new home feed that shows full-screen posts with comments, captions, likes, and other features.

The company confirmed that regular photo and video posts will also be shown in the full-screen feed. At the moment, people post square photos and videos on the app. After the full-screen feel, they will be encouraged to post vertical videos and photos as regular posts for a better experience.

There is still the bottom navigation bar to access discovery, Reels, Shopping, or your own profile page. At the top, you see icons to switch accounts, create a post, check your notifications, and access direct messages.

Reels have increased engagement on the app a lot and Stories also continue to be one of the primary money-making features on the app. When vertical content is doing better, it is better to focus on that.

Earlier this month, the company also confirmed that is now planning to change its algorithm to reward original content. So, the original content will get better reach than the reposted content. Instagram is already rewarding top reel creators to encourage them to post more original content. It also plans to monetize Reels but it will slowly move into that without ruining the user expereince. The company said in earning calls that the Monetization of Reels will take place over multiple years.

TikTok is the biggest competitor of Instagram. This is the reason Instagram keeps copying features from TikTok to attract more users who are actively using TikTok. Now the company is offering a similar interface so they can feel comfortable on Instagram and don’t miss the TikTok.
