Adobe has finally brought Premiere to Android, nearly a year after launching the new mobile video editor on iPhone. The company had promised an Android version at launch, and it is now available for users to download for free.
The app is designed to make video editing easier on smartphones while still offering many of the tools found in professional editing software. It includes a multi-track timeline optimized for touchscreens, creator-made templates, effects, transitions and audio editing tools.
Users can import their own videos, edit them, and export the finished videos without watermarks. The basic editing tools are also available without requiring users to sign in to an Adobe account.
Adobe has also added several Firefly-powered generative AI features. These include Generative Fill, Image-to-Video and tools for generating sound effects. However, these features require an Adobe account and Firefly generative credits.
Premiere on Android also supports Adobe Stock’s library of video and audio assets. Access to these assets requires an Adobe Stock subscription, while users can continue using their own photos and videos without paying for additional assets.
The Android version is still missing some features available on iPhone. Adobe is working on the ability to move a project from the mobile app to Premiere on desktop and continue editing there. The company says this feature is coming soon.
Adobe is also working on Adobe Fonts, enhanced captions, keyframes, video cropping and beat detection for the Android app. These additions should make the mobile editor more useful for creators who regularly produce videos on their phones.
Adobe Premiere is now available for Android for free. The core editing features do not require a subscription or login, while some AI tools and premium Adobe Stock content require paid services.
