The meta-owned social media platform Instagram has reportedly surpassed the 2 billion monthly active users milestone. The company has not admitted anything but an anonymous employee confirmed it to CNBC.
The last time when Instagram confirmed its active user base was back in 2018. The company has found itself under scrutiny several times in recent years. That could be the reason why the company isn’t disclosing the numbers officially.
The anonymous Instagram employee also told CNBC that Instagram reached this milestone about a week before Facebook changed its name to Meta.

Instagram was launched back in 2010 and was acquired by Facebook for $1 Billion in 2012. The company’s initial growth was slow but soon this social media platform became a good earning source for Facebook.
Meta is trying its best to beat TikTok but is still behind. As per a report published last month, 63% of American teens (aged between 12 and 17) are active on TikTok on a weekly basis as compared to 57& on Instagram. TikTok was also the most popular app of 2021.
Instagram’s recent milestone is big but the company cannot celebrate it. It is already under scanner for potentially causing harm to kids and teens. The company also had to stop the development of its upcoming app for kids under 13.
