Finally, it is official. Facebook, the company behind the popular social network and other apps is getting a new name. Facebook is rebranding its corporate entity to Meta. Meta brings all Facebook apps and technologies under one new company brand.
Mark Zuckerberg announced the new branding at the company’s Connect event. The name of the company is tightly connected to just one product while the company now owns several other products including WhatsApp, Instagram, Oculus, and more. So, rebranding makes sense.
“We are a company that builds technology to connect,” Zuckerberg said. “Together, we can finally put people at the center of our technology. And together, we can unlock a massively bigger creator economy.”
Zuckerberg now owns meta.com that redirects to the welcome page explaining what the company does.
There will be no change in the corporate structure but the company will now change how it reports financial results. The company will now report earnings in two operating segments: Family of Apps and Reality Labs.
