Instagram has been creating milestones since it was launched on Android. It is already very popular on iOS devices. Instagram recorded 1 million downloads in the 1st day it was launched on Android. These data are enough to tell the popularity of this photo sharing app among the users.

After seeing the popularity of Instagram, Facebook has announced to acquire this photo sharing app. The deal is done for the amount of $1 billion and is expected to close later this quarter.

Mark Zuckerburg also posted about this deal on his timeline. He said, “I’m excited to share the news that we’ve agreed to acquire Instagram and that their talented team will be joining Facebook.”

“We believe these are different experiences that complement each other. But in order to do this well, we need to be mindful about keeping and building on Instagram’s strengths and features rather than just trying to integrate everything into Facebook,” He added.

“We think the fact that Instagram is connected to other services beyond Facebook is an important part of the experience. We plan on keeping features like the ability to post to other social networks, the ability to not share your Instagrams on Facebook if you want, and the ability to have followers and follow people separately from your friends on Facebook,” He explained.

“We’re looking forward to working with the Instagram team and to all of the great new experiences we’re going to be able to build together.”

Instagram team will now work with Facebook to make photo sharing more easy and popular on Facebook. Facebook is working on its photo sharing for past few months and changed many things and added some new features which includes new photo viewer. It will be interesting to see how Facebook will use Instagram.
