Google has announced that its YouTube Music will be free for Google Home or other Google Assistant-powered speakers. This free YouTube Music service will be ad-supported and will only be available in selected markets.

Google took this step after it was reported that Amazon is working to launch a free, streaming music service for Echo users.

People who have Google Home or any other Google Assistant-powered speaker need to make YouTube Music as the default streaming music on their speaker. For this, they can visit the Account Settings section of the Google Home app. In Settings, visit Services, Music and select “YouTube Music” as default.

After this, users can ask Google Assistant to play music and it will be played using YouTube music. In free YouTUbe music, you can only ask it to play songs for a mood or a certain genre. You can not request particular songs, albums, artists or playlists. To get this ability, you will have to purchase YouTube Music Premium.

The ad-supported free YouTube Music is now available in United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Great Britain, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Japan, Netherlands, and Austria. The company has promised to add more countries soon. YouTube Music is now available in India, so we also can expect India’s name in this list.

YouTube launched YouTube Music in India last month at Rs. 99 per month.
