Facebook-owned photo and video sharing service Instagram is reportedly working on a new standalone app for shopping. It is expected to be called ‘IG Shopping’.

While there is no official confirmation from the brand, The Verge got this information from people familiar with the matter. The app is still in development and there is no information when it will be launched.

Instagram has over 25 million business profiles and around 2 million business uses Instagram ads actively. Giving option to shop will help business drive more sales because there are lots of influencers convincing people to buy certain product.

Instagram started testing the shopping feature back in November 2016 and rolled out it to more businesses last year. Earlier this year, It was also found testing a native payment option. Later this year in June, Instagram introduced shoppable tags to stories. So, we were expecting the shopping feature as a part of the primary app.

This is not the first standalone app from Instagram. The company has launched IGTV and has been testing Direct, a new messaging app. Now the company is building a shopping app.

While we have no information from official sources, Instagram’s past developments suggest its interest in shopping feature.

Do you think that a standalone shopping app will help Instagram? Let us know your views in the comments.
