Asus recently launched its Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 in Indian market. This phone’s specifications and price have created buzz and people started calling it Redmi Note 5 Pro Killer. This phone really gives tough completion to Redmi Note 5 Pro and does better in few areas.

I have been using both phones are the same time for past 2 days. Based on my personal experience, here is the in-depth comparison of Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro.

Before you read, you can check side by side specs comparison Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro.

Design

Even if Zenfone Max Pro M1 is cheaper, Asus has not compromised on the build quality. Both the phones look similar and sport metal bodies having top and bottom sections made out of polycarbonate. Placement of camera, fingerprint sensor volume rocker, SIM slot, headphone jack, speaker and micro USB is also identical. Build quality is also solid in both phones and offer similar kind of grip while holding.

Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes with 5000 mAh large battery and weighs 180 grams while Redmi Note 5 Pro with 4000 mAh battery weighs 181 grams. Zenfone Max Pro M1 is slightly longer, wider and thicker.

Display

Both the phones come with 5.99-inch IPS LCD display with 2160 x 1080 pixels resolution. But the display on the Asus phone is better with 1500:1 contrast ratio as compared to 1000:1 contrast ratio in Redmi Note 5 Pro. This is the reason, Zenfone Max Pro M1 is brighter and offers better sunlight legibility.

Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro

Both the phones feature 2.5D curved glass screen, but the display on Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with Gorilla Glass protection. Asus didn’t specity any such protection. What would you prefer? A better display or protected display? Choice is yours.

Performance

Both the phones come with same Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset. Redmi Note 5 Pro is available in 4GB and 6GB RAM models while the Zenfone Pro Max M1 is available in 3GB and 4 GB RAM models. The 6 GB RAM model with better camera will be available in first week of June.

I was using 3GB RAM variant of Zenfone Max Pro M1 and 4GB RAM variant of Redmi Note 5 Pro. Performance was similar but Redmi Note 5 Pro was bit smoother. But I will not give it any advantage due to larger RAM. I even testing few games including PUBG, Asphalt, N.O.V.A on both phones and found similar kind of gaming experience.

Asus is offering the phone with stock Android 8.1 and has optimised it properly. While the Redmi Note 5 Pro runs on MIUI 7.1.1. Here MIUI is feature rich and offers decent experience. But Zenfone Max Pro M1 is there if you want stock Android. Asus has promised regular security updates and next two big Android Upgrades. We all know that Xiaomi is always slow in pushing Android updates.

In terms of storage, Asus has an advantage that most of the people want. It offers triple slot where one is dedicated microSD card slot. So, you will not have to compromise with dual SIM. And expandable storage support is also up to 2TB. Not just this, you also get 100 GB of Google Drive storage for next two years for free.

Camera

Both the phones, Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Redmi Note 5 Pro come with dual camera setup. Zenfone Max Pro M1 got 13-megapixel+5-megapixel dual camera with Soft light flash and 8 megapixels front camera with Soft light flash at the front as well. Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with 12-megapixel+5-megapixel dual camera with dual color LED flash and 20 megapixels front camera with LED flash at the front.

In terms of camera, Redmi note 5 Pro beats Zenfone Max Pro M1. It has slightly better rear camera and much better front camera.

Here, I also want to note that Asus has confirmed that camera software on review units is still not finished and it will receive updates before the phone hits market. So, camera performance will be improved. But I know front camera of Redmi note 5 Pro will still be better while rear camera performance will see tough fight.

Multimedia experience

Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes with 5-magnet speaker and NXP smart amplifier. Its sound is better than the sound in Redmi note 5 Pro. Zenfone Max Pro M1 also comes with MaxBox that works as an amplifier and boosts sound up o 1.7 times. Zenfone Max Pro M1 has slight better display and louder sound, so better video and gaming experience.

Battery

Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes with 5000 mAh battery that is larger than 4000 mAh battery in Redmi Note 5 Pro. The battery is not just larger in capacity but also offers better battery life. Zenfone Max Pro M1 can easily give you two days of battery life with normal usage while Redmi note Pro can last over a day and a half on a single charge. Both the phones support Quick charge.
