Qualcomm announced Snapdragon X Plus SoC for PC

Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon X Plus SoC for PCs. The Social is built on a 4nm process node and boasts powerful on-device AI features. This chip can also be seen a direct rival to Apple, Intel, and AMD laptop processors in terms of performance.

Snapdragon X Plus is based on the same Oryon CPU that was used in Snapdragon X Elite. It has 10 10-core Qualcomm Oryon CPU. There’s also a 45 TOPS NPU that is also the world’s fastest NPU for laptops. It boasts to deliver up to 37% faster CPU performance compared to competitors and consumes up to 54% less power. The SoC supports 64GB of LPDDR5x RAM and M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD storage.

Snapdragon X Plus SoC

The SoC is built for AI applications. It has Qualcomm AI Engine and Hexagon NPU. The company also demonstrated a few AI-optimized applications:

  • Code generation in Visual Studio Code from Codegen
  • Music generation in Audacity using Riffusion on-device AI
  • Live captions in OBS Studio for Snapdragon X Plus SoC live captions in 100 languages using Whisper

Snapdragon X Plus supports up to three external UHD monitors, support for streaming up to 4K HDR videos, and advanced MIPI camera support for high-quality imaging.

We can expect PCs powered by Snapdragon X Plus from mid-2024 onwards.

Qualcomm is also releasing three twelve-core Snapdragon X Elite processors running at 3.8GHz and up to a 4.6 TFLOP iGPU.
