Android N is now launched in developers preview, and we already know many of its features. Now when we know that next Android is already in works, we are more interested in its name. Like previous versions of Android, Android L also got a name for internal use. Google’s developers are calling it “New York Cheesecake.

If you could remember, KitKat (Key Lime Pie), Lollipop (Lemon Meringue Pie), and Marshmallow (Macadamia Nut Cookie) also had their internal names. The name’s initials are showing in Android Open Source Project repository While this name has no value because final release will get some other name.

“New York Cheesecake” name is long to type. So, I do not think this will be the final name.

Google started naming for different Android versions after desserts and sweets around six years back. Many Indian people asked Google to use the name of India dessert for Android name. While this wish is yet to be fulfilled, Sundar Pichai hinted to name Android N after an Indian dessert.

Google has also started taking suggestions from users with an Opinion Rewards app. You will get Play Store credit for answering surveys. Google has asked, “What tasty food comes to mind that starts with the letter N? and What is your tasty treat from the list?” I am not sure if the winning option will get a chance to be named as an Android version. But Google will certainly get many name suggestions.

If you have any name in your mind, you can download Opinion Rewards app and then suggest your favourite name.
