Google is bringing a new AI-powered feature to Google Photos that could change the way people organize and plan their outfits. As part of the June Android Drop, the company announced a new digital wardrobe feature that automatically identifies clothing items in your photo library and organizes them into a personal virtual closet.
The feature is set to begin rolling out next week for eligible users in the United States, India, and Brazil running Android 10 or later.
The new wardrobe feature uses AI to scan photos stored in Google Photos and identify the clothes you are wearing. It then creates individual snapshots of those clothing items. By doing this, it allows users to browse their collection in a dedicated wardrobe view.
Instead of scrolling through hundreds or thousands of photos trying to remember what you wore to a specific event, users will be able to quickly view clothing pieces that Google has automatically cataloged.
According to Google, the goal is to make it easier to find outfit inspiration, save favorite looks, and share style ideas with friends.
The company says the feature can organize everything from everyday clothing to special occasion outfits, creating a personalized digital wardrobe without requiring users to manually upload or tag clothing items.
Google is also positioning the feature as an outfit planning tool. Users will be able to mix and match items from their wardrobe and virtually try different combinations before getting dressed. This could help users decide what to wear, plan outfits for upcoming events, or avoid repeatedly buying similar clothing items they already own.
Fashion-focused apps have offered similar features for years, but Google’s advantage is its direct integration with Google Photos, an app already used by billions of people worldwide.
Google says the digital wardrobe feature will begin rolling out next week to eligible users in the United States, India, and Brazil. It will be available on Android devices running Android 10 and newer.
