Internet of Things OS BrilloGoogle wants to have an operating system which powers all devices that can be connected to Internet. This is why, it is building an operating system “Brillo” for Internet of Things. Google is expected to announced this new OS for Internet of things in its next Developers’ conference later this month. Brillo will also be launched under the Android brand, like it launched Android Wear for wearable devices.

As the OS is for Internet of things, it will be lightweight and will target low-power devices with only 32MB or 64MB of RAM.

With new innovative smart home technologies like connected light bulbs, door locks, Smart beds, smart fans, sensors and others are coming up, Google clearly see that there is a big opportunity in this segment. So, it wants to be early before any other company could come up with a possible single platform for all devices. Google is also expected to provide this new platform to developers for free. Of course there will be branding of Brillo.

Having a single platform for all internet of things will encourage developers to work on smart internet of things products. It will also remove the compatibility issue with different hardware. So, in near future, you will see most of your gadgets connected to internet and you will be able to control those gadgets from any where with few taps in your smartphone.

Google already showed its ambition for smart home technology back with acquisitions of Nest, Dropcam, and Revolv. But this Android development team is leading the project with the team company acquired in past.

Internet of things is a new market which is expected to grow very fast in coming years. Gartner predicts the number of internet connected devices will surpass 26 billion units by 2020. So, Google wants to dominate this market as early as possible. Few companies also launched similar kind of OS for internet of things. But Google is expert in software platform. So, it can offer something better existing market rivals.
