Music streaming service Rdio has acquired Dhingana. Radio has also announced that it will launch Rdio India later this year. Dhingana had recently shutdown its operations without any explanation.
Rdio is already available in more than 50 countries and this deal will help company to launch its operation in India effectively. Dhingana’s platform will help Rdio scale faster in the country where more than 125 million users have access to Internet. With this large population, India is a potential market for the company.
“We are one of (the) very few global companies that can provide a great music experience to an expanding international audience, and it is our objective to bring that experience to India and to non-resident Indians and fans around the world,” CEO Anthony Bay says.
Rdio India will have to fight with other rivals including Saavn and Gaana.com. It will not be easy for Rdio get early success in India. In past Google Music, Flipkart’s Flyte and In.com music were also shutdown their operations.
