Google has presented the latest version of its mobile operating system Android. This latest version is called Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

At the Google I/O conference, it showed a demonstration comparing phones running on the Ice Cream Sandwich and the Jelly Bean, respectively, side-by-side.

Google said that Jelly Bean comes with a feature called Project Butter that makes it the smoothest version of Android so far.

This new version of OS comes with lots of improvements and many new features. It has a better interface and search. Google has also added a Siri like feature that answers questions asked aloud and sends users to a related webpage. This siri like personal assistant is called “Google Now.”

The Camera app has also been updated with a much faster way to review photos. Ice Cream Sandwich users may be familiar with the stock Camera app’s quick-shooting capabilities, but now users can pinch to enter a film strip view for faster perusal.

Notifications and search are also revamped to be more userfriendly. Searching from the Google bar brings up handsome white cards that display information culled using the Knowledge Graph.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will be available in mid-July over the air for the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S and Motorola Xoom.
