If you use Snapchat regularly, you have probably noticed a number next to your username—your Snapscore. But how does it actually go up? Let’s break it down in a simple way.
What is a Snapscore?
Your Snapscore is a number that represents your activity on Snapchat. It increases based on how much you use the app, but Snapchat does not reveal the exact formula behind it. I have already written a detailed article on Snapscore. Read that to know more about it in detail.
Ways to Increase Your Snapscore
- Sending Snaps: The easiest way to increase your Snapscore is by sending Snaps (photos or videos) to friends. Every time you send a Snap (photo or video) to a friend, your score increases. The more Snaps you send, the faster your score goes up.
- Receiving Snaps: Your score also goes up when you receive Snaps from friends. But just opening messages or viewing stories won’t increase your score.
- Posting Stories: Adding Snaps to your Story contributes to your Snapscore. If you post multiple Snaps in a day, you will see a slight increase.
- Using Snapchat Regularly: If you have not been active on Snapchat for a while and start using it again, you might get a boost in your Snapscore when you return.
- Adding Friends and Engaging with Them: While adding friends alone doesn’t increase your score, interacting with them through Snaps and Streaks does.
What Doesn’t Increase Your Snapscore?
- Text messages (Chats)
- Watching Stories
- Sending Snaps to a group (you only get points for the first Snap, not for each person in the group)
Can Your Snapscore Decrease?
No, your Snap Score never decreases. Even if you stop using Snapchat for a while, your score will stay the same until you start using the app again.

Final Thoughts
Your Snapscore is simply a reflection of how much you use Snapchat. If you want to increase it, focus on sending and receiving Snaps, posting Stories, and staying active on the app. The more snaps you send, the more your snapscore rises.
