If you have ever wanted to record a phone call on your iPhone, you probably know how difficult it used to be. Until iOS 18, Apple never offered a built-in way to record phone calls, and users had to rely on third-party apps or complicated workarounds. But with iOS 18, that has changed. I also wrote about third-party call recording apps in this article. But I am updating the article with the native call recording option. Now that Apple has added a native call recording feature, users can record calls i their iPhone.
To use the built-in call recording feature, you need:
- An iPhone 12 or later
- iOS 18 installed
- The feature must be available in your country (some regions may restrict call recording due to legal reasons)
Yes, your iPhone 11 running iOS 18 doesn’t get this feature. In counties where call recording is not legal, the feature is not available.
How to Record Calls on iPhone
Recording a call is straightforward. Here is how you can do it:
Start a phone call as you normally would. During the call, look for the waveform icon on the call screen. Tap the icon to start recording.
As soon as you tap the icon, Apple plays a short message informing both parties that the call is being recorded. This is done to ensure transparency and comply with privacy laws.
After the call ends, the recording and its transcript are automatically saved in the Notes app. You can find them in a folder called “Call Recordings.” From there, you can listen to the recording, read the transcript, and share it or keep it for reference
How to Disable Call Recording
If you do not want to use this feature, you can turn it off anytime. Here is how:
- Go to Settings
- Tap Apps > Phone
- Select Call Recording
- Toggle off the feature
Final Words
With iOS 18, recording calls on iPhone is now just a tap away. It is simple, transparent, and does not require any third-party app. But remember, laws about call recording vary depending on your country or region. Make sure to check the legal requirements before using this feature.
