Meta is finally working on improving the web version of Threads. The company has started testing a redesigned interface that brings some much-needed features.
The update was shared by Connor Hayes, head of Threads. It introduces a cleaner layout and makes the platform easier to use on a desktop.
One of the biggest changes is the addition of direct messaging. Until now, the Threads inbox was only available on the mobile app. Web users could not access messages at all. With this update, that gap is finally being addressed.
The new design also improves navigation. A left-side panel now includes shortcuts to saved posts, activity, insights, and different feeds. These features were already available earlier, but they were hard to find.
The update also makes it easier to switch between multiple feeds. This should help users who follow different topics or communities.
Meta has not shared a timeline for the rollout yet. The company says it has started testing the new design and plans to invest more in the web experience going forward.
The last major update to the Threads website came in April last year. Since then, most new features have been focused on the mobile app. Some features are still limited to mobile, even if they can be viewed on the web.
Alongside this, Meta is also testing small changes in the Threads app. Replies will now appear slightly indented, making conversations easier to follow. This update is already rolling out on iOS and is currently being tested on Android.
