If you are paying for YouTube Premium Lite to avoid ads, you might not like what is coming. Google has announced that it will start showing more ads, even to paying users. YouTube has sent an email to Premium Lite members informing them about the change.

“We are writing to let you know that beginning 30 June 2025, ads may appear on Shorts, in addition to music content and when you search or browse. Most videos will continue to remain ad-free,” email reads.

YouTube Premium Lite was made for users who wanted fewer ads without paying the full price of YouTube Premium. It was a middle option, cheaper than Premium, but with fewer interruptions than free YouTube.

Starting June 30, 2025, YouTube Premium Lite users will begin seeing ads on Shorts, music videos, and even while browsing or searching on YouTube. Google says that “most videos” will still be ad-free, but this update means more ads are coming back into the experience.

This change is not just for a few countries. It is being rolled out worldwide.

Many users are now questioning whether Premium Lite is still worth it. It still has fewer ads than the free version, and it costs less than full Premium. But with more ads returning, some users may decide to upgrade or even go back to the free version.
