Google I set to make web browsing smarter and more helpful. During Google I/O 2025, Google announced that the Gemini AI assistant is coming to Chrome. The company also shared how Gemini will work directly inside the browser.

At launch, Gemini in Chrome can clarify complex information on any webpage or summarize content. Whether you are reading a product page, a recipe, or a blog, Gemini can give you a quick overview of the most important points.

You will notice a sparkle icon in the top right corner of Chrome. Click it, and a floating Gemini chat window appears. This window can be moved and resized. From here, you can ask Gemini questions about the current page you are viewing.

For example, in a demo, a Google team member opened a sleeping bag product page. Gemini listed the key features of the sleeping bag in seconds. Then, she asked if it would be suitable for camping in Maine. Gemini pulled in details from the page and other sources to answer. After that, she opened another retailer’s site for a different sleeping bag and asked Gemini to compare both options. Gemini created a comparison table, making the decision easier.

Gemini in Chrome will get even more powerful later this year. You will be able to select multiple tabs and ask a question that relates to all of them. This can be useful for comparing items, researching topics, or planning a trip.

Google is also working on a feature that allows Gemini to navigate websites for you. In one demo, Gemini was asked to scroll to the ingredients section on a recipe page — and it did. It even converted measurements from cups to grams when asked.

Gemini in Chrome launches on Wednesday for users who are 18 or older, use English, have Windows or macOS, and are subscribed to Google AI Pro or Ultra. Google has also confirmed that mobile support for Gemini is not coming just yet. The company might add it in the future.
