As per the latest report by Moneycontrol, Bharti Airtel has decided to exit from music streaming vertical. The company is shutting down the Wynk Music app. This news came soon after Airtel announced a strategic partnership with Apple.
Moneycontrol reported that Airtel will shut down Wynk Music and absorb All Wynk Music employees within Airtel company.
Airtel’s decision to shut down Wynk Music is primarily driven by a strategic partnership with Apple. Now that Airtel customers will get access to Apple Music’s larger music library, Wynk Music won’t be valuable to customers. Managing a music streaming service is also not an easy task and it is also a highly competitive market with players like Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music. Airtel may have decided to allocate its resources to other areas of its business
Wynk Music was launched back in 2014 and brings a large collection of music, and podcasts in multiple regional languages. Airtel customers get free access to all features. As of 2023, Whynk Music had around 72 million monthly listeners.
Airtel also previously tried to marge Wynk with Ghana but the deal couldn’t happen. Recently, Gaana was acquired by Times Group’s subsidiary, Entertainment Network India Limited for just Rs. 25 lakh.
