Smartphone prices have been going up, making flagship phones harder to afford for many buyers. ControlZ is using Independence Day to push a different way of upgrading. The renewed smartphone brand has launched a limited-period campaign around the idea of moving consumers “from new to renewed.”
As part of the campaign, ControlZ will ship its smartphones in limited-edition tricolour packaging. The company says the packaging is meant to celebrate Independence Day while also highlighting the idea of giving existing smartphones a new life instead of buying a completely new device.
The campaign is built around the growing interest in renewed smartphones. Instead of buying a new mid-range phone, consumers can opt for a renewed flagship that offers better hardware and features at a lower price. ControlZ says its focus is on making these devices feel as close to new as possible.
The company renews pre-owned smartphones at its facility in Gurugram. According to ControlZ, the process involves renewing devices component by component rather than simply cleaning and reselling used phones. The company says every device goes through more than 300 quality checks before it is sold.
ControlZ also promises 100% battery health and provides an 18-month warranty with its renewed smartphones. These are important points for buyers who may still have concerns about purchasing a used or refurbished phone.
“Renewed” is also becoming an interesting alternative as flagship smartphone prices continue to increase. A phone that was expensive when it launched can become much more accessible after spending some time in the market. Renewed devices can also extend the useful life of smartphones and reduce the need to manufacture completely new devices.
ControlZ founder and CEO Yug Bhatia says the company wants India to become an important part of the global renewal industry. He also sees the sector as an opportunity to create skilled jobs and build local expertise around smartphone restoration.
The company says its Renew Hub uses AI, automation and robotics as part of its renewal process. ControlZ is positioning this approach as different from the traditional second-hand smartphone market, where the condition and quality of a device can vary significantly.
The Independence Day campaign itself is not a major change to ControlZ’s products. Instead, it is an attempt to make renewed smartphones more mainstream at a time when consumers are becoming more careful about how much they spend on upgrades.
Now the question is whether a renewed flagship makes more sense for buyers than a new phone at the same price. If the device has been properly restored, comes with a healthy battery and has a reliable warranty, it can offer a way to get better hardware without paying the price of a new flagship.
ControlZ’s campaign will run for a limited period, with the tricolour packaging available with its renewed smartphones during the Independence Day period.
