Popular end-to-end encrypted (E2EE) email service provider, Proton Mail, has now officially released its desktop apps for Windows and MacOS. Desktop apps are exclusive to premium subscribers. The company has also released a Linux app in beta Proton Mail desktop apps for macOS and Windows were released in beta back in December last year.

Proton Mail was initially introduced as a web app back in 2014. With dedicated email apps on the desktop platforms, users can improve their productivity. A dedicated email app lets users check their emails and events faster without any distractions. The good thing is that the privacy remains protected.

Proton Mail desktop app can also sync themes with your desktop’s light or dark mode for a better experience. The interface of the app is similar to the web app to keep the experience the same. The app also bundles Proton’s encrypted Calendar service.

The company promises that the Proton Mail desktop app inherits the same security and privacy including zero-access encryption and end-to-end encryption to protect users against trackers and phishing.

You can download the desktop app on Windows and macOS and get access to 14 14-day free trial if you are not already a paid subscriber. But you need to be a paid subscriber to keep using the desktop app. Proton Mail premium subscriptions cost 3.99€ per month and 9.99 €/month for Mail Plus and Proton Unlimited plans.
