At Google Google I/O 2023, Google announced Immersive View to routes in Google Maps. It will provide an easier way to understand the path you are taking. The Immersive View will provide a 3D view of a place with data like weather or traffic at any location.

Google aims to offer a better idea of the location you are going. It will show a bird’s-eye view of the path by visualizing the landmarks and buildings you might see while navigating. It will also show the traffic simulation, so you can understand what you will encounter on the road.

The feature uses AI and computer vision to blend together billions of aerial and Street View images for creating 3D models of spaces.

“With our new immersive view, you’ll be able to experience what a neighborhood, landmark, restaurant, or popular venue is like — and even feel like you’re right there before you ever set foot inside,” says Google.

Google Immersive View will be available for a few cities in the summer and 15 cities including Amsterdam, Berlin, Dublin, Florence, Las Vegas, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Paris, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, Tokyo, and Venice by the end of the year.

Miriam Daniel, VP and GM of Google Maps, confirmed that the feature will initially be available to Android and iOS, but didn’t say anything about the desktop availability.
