The Indian government has already conducted a successful auction of the 5G spectrum. Now different telecom companies are working to start rolling out 5G services. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has confirmed that 5G services will take some time in being available across the country but it will begin in major circles as early as October 12.

It is worth noting that the government earlier planned a 5G rollout from September 29. Now a delay of 15 days is nothing considering the kind of service we will get.

This year’s spectrum auction was really different. The government is also properly involved and is working with telecom operators to start 5G services as soon as possible. Bharti Airtel’s Sunil Mittal confirmed that the government issued an allocation letter to Airtel within a few hours of making an upfront payment to DoT. He further claimed that this was the first time in 30 years that allocation letters got issued the same day.

Different telecom operators have paid different amounts depending on their capacity and spectrum acquired by them. DoT has received a sum of Rs. 17,876 crores from Vodafone Idea, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Adani Data Networks.

DoT has also earlier confirmed that 5G will be rollout in 13 major Indian cities including Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Chandigarh, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune.

5G phones are already available in the market. Now we have 5G phones even in mid-range and budget segment. People who already bought 5G phones will enjoy 5G services when it will be available. Other people will have to upgrade their phones.
