IMDb TV is rebranding to Amazon Freevee

Freevee

Amazon has decided to change the name of IMDb TV. Starting April 27, the ad-supported streaming service will be called Freevee. The company claims that the new name reflects how much the platform costs. Amazon has also promised to invest more into original content and plans to increase originals by 70% in 2022.

IMDb TV wasn’t a bad name but it was long to pronounce. So, the company was exploring several names for the rebranding. As per reports, they also considered names like Zon, Free TV, and Free Streaming TV as potential options. Finally decided to move ahead with Freevee.

The platform boasts more than 60 free ad-supported television channels. Freevee will soon get its first original movie, several originals, and new shows from in-demand creators like Dick Wolf and Michael Schur.

Amazon claims that this ad-supported streaming platform has managed to triple its monthly active users in the past two years. Now the company is also planning to launch the service in Germany later this year.

Amazon’s IMDb launched Freedive’s free streaming platform back in January 2019 and later rebranded it as IMDb TV. So, this is the 2nd rebranding of the same streaming platform. Amazon also owns a premium streaming service Amazon Prime Video. Amazon Freevee is also a free alternative to its own Prime Video. People who do not want to pay for video content can watch Freevee.
