The popular puzzle game Wordle is being acquired by The New York Times Company. The game will still be free to play for all new and existing players. There will also be no changes in the gameplay.
Josh Wardle, The person behind the game, has also tweeted to confirm the acquisition.
The company didn’t disclose the exact amount it paid to the developer for the game but said it has been acquired for low-seven figures.
Since the launch of the game in October 2021, Wordle exploded in popularity. Now the game has millions of daily players who try to guess the word of the day. The game was built only for one person. That’s why it was hosted on an existing website. Slowly, the game reached more people and gained popularity. Wardle also never imagined that the game would become so big in just a short span of time.
