Facebook is now testing its new experimental video speed-dating app developed by its NPE Team. The app is called Sparked and requires a Facebook profile to sign up. The website is now live and the home page reads, “video dating with kind people.” I tried checking for apps on App Store and Google Play, but apps are yet to be released.

Sparked claims there won’t be any public profile, no swiping, and no DMs. It will be free to use service where anyone can create an account using the Facebook login. You will be cycled through speed video dates that can last up to 4 minutes. If you both have a great time, your next date will be scheduled for a 10-minute. After this, you both can share contact information.

As the service isn’t available in India, I couldn’t sign up. Ashley Carman from The Verge attempted to setup a profile and see how this app works. He also noted that Sparked is preparing to test the experience at a Chicago Date Night event.

During the sign up, the app asks you to explain why makes you a kind dater. Responses to the question will be reviewed by a human at Sparked before the app allowed you to go on speed dates. Users will have an option to choose whom they want to date. They can select fro men, women, or nonbinary people. It will also ask if you are open to date trans people.

Facebook already has a dating feature in its main app. Facebook dating was launched in the US back in 2019 and has been released in several other countries. So, Sparked will be the second dating product from the company. Most people don’t trust the Facebook app for privacy reasons. That’s why not many people took interesting in Facebook Dating. This could be the reason why the company is now working on a separate product.
