YouTube is planning to take on TikTok with ‘YouTube Shorts’

As per new reports, YouTube has started experimenting with a new feature called “Shorts” for relatively short videos. YouTube will also use its catalog of licensed music to allow users to make videos using these soundtracks. YouTube Shorts is likely yo be launched for all users by the end of 2020.

We still have no information where this short content will appear and what will be the max length of short clops. Some users have reported varying lengths. It means YouTube is still trying to figure out the ideal duration for YouTube shorts.

For now, Users are seeing Shorts inside the YouTube app but differently. Some people saw it under Watch History and video suggestions while some people found it alongside Stories.

When asked about this to a YouTube spokesperson, he declined to comment saying “We don’t comment on rumor or speculation.”

TikTok is now one of the most popular social media apps among youths. The app has somewhere managed to beat Instagram in several countries. This is the reason Facebook and other companies are now trying to launch similar apps. Facebook launched lasso a few months. Google has also launched Tangi for creators to post DIY and share short videos.

If you just look at TikTok numbers in India, TikTok surpassed 1.5 billion downloads globally on both Apple’ App Store and Google Play Store in November 2019. India accounts for almost 31% of these downloads. Users in India spent over 5.5 Billion hours on TikTok in 2019 that was 900 million hours in 2018.

YouTube could easily compete against TikTok because it already has users who use the platform to watch videos. YouTube also has thousands of creators already. So, it won’t have to put much efforts in getting users for this new features.
