Google Announces Health and Fitness Tracking Platform Google Fit

At it annual I/O developers conference, Google has announced a new health platform Google Fit. This platform allows various apps to share health data for individuals to create a complete fitness report. It is an open platform and SDK will be available in coming days.

Google Fit platform is designed to manage all your fitness tracking apps, sensors and data. Users will be able to choose which app can access the fitness data and can delete this information any time. Once you give app permission to gather your health data, it will be able to access your data and use it for other tasks.

Google confirmed that Nike and Adidas have already partnered for apps using this platform.

Google Product Manager Ellie Powers demonstrated Google Fit platform’s with the weight loss app Noom which communicated with Powers’ Withings scale app to keep track of daily cookie habit.

Google announced Google Fit few weeks after Apple announced Healthkit platform for iOS 8. Concept is similar and we will see a tough battle.
