WhatsApp Beta on iOS Now Supports Native Live Photos

WhatsApp has released a new update for iOS beta users that finally brings support for native Live Photos. The update, version 25.24.10.72, allows users to share Live Photos with both motion and sound, offering a more natural experience. This change was first reported by WABetaInfo, which also shared screenshots of the feature in action.

Previously, when users shared Live Photos on WhatsApp, they were sent as static images or compressed GIFs that lacked audio. With the new update, Live Photos retain their original format. A small Live Photo icon will appear on the thumbnail, and recipients can tap to view the photo in live mode. If saved to the iOS Photos app, the image will still function as a Live Photo.

The update also ensures smooth sharing between iOS and Android. On Android devices, Live Photos appear as motion photos. If an Android user sends a motion photo, iOS users will receive it as a Live Photo. This compatibility removes fragmentation and makes sharing seamless. Users also have the option to disable the motion and send the photo as a still image through a new toggle in the gallery sheet.

Right now, the feature is only available to a limited group of beta testers through TestFlight. However, WABetaInfo notes that some stable users have also started receiving it, suggesting that a wider rollout could be on the way.
